Last updated: October 6, 2026

Overview

This guide covers the setup of the Pundmann 9L AC/DC Water Heater: mounting the tank, plumbing the mixer and hot/cold lines, and wiring up both the 12V DC element and the 110V AC element(s).

Before You Start

  • Vehicle: Any van or overlanding vehicle

  • Kit: Pundmann 9L AC/DC Water Heater

  • Mounting location: Wherever it fits in your water system bay (orient it so the plumbing ports and electronics face the direction of your main plumbing run)

Tools & Materials

  • Crescent wrench

  • High-quality PTFE thread seal tape (a "blue monster"-style tape)

  • Drill with a 7/8" bit (for the push button) — plan to back-drill if your mounting surface is thicker than 1/4"

  • Wire crimper

  • 12 or 10 AWG wire for the 12V DC supply, fused at around 25 amps

  • A single-pole switch rated for 20 amps (for the 110V AC side)

  • 14 or 12 AWG wire on a 15A breaker, per 500W or 1000W AC element

  • 10 AWG wire on a 20A breaker, if wiring the optional third element alongside the primary AC element

  • What's included: Water Heater, Mixer, 12V Relay with switch, push button, braided stainless steel hose, three BSP-to-NPT adapters, two adjustable straps, four mounting brackets
