How Do I Install the 22-Gallon Undercarriage Grey Tank (SP-UC-22) on a Sprinter

Install the SP-UC-22 on a Sprinter by marking and setting rivnuts for three brackets under the van, then sliding the tank into place and bolting each bracket to the rivnuts and the fuel tank mounting points. The grey tank uses two identical brackets and one slightly taller bracket, which goes toward the rear so water runs down to the drain. This is a tricky install, so take your time.

Before You Start

  • Vehicle: Mercedes Sprinter

  • Kit: GoCode 22-Gallon Undercarriage Grey Tank (SP-UC-22)

  • Brackets: Two identical brackets and one slightly taller bracket for the grey tank (the fresh water only version has three identical brackets)

  • Rivnuts: Installed in a separate video. Watch it first.

  • Mounting location: Under the van, using the fuel tank mounting bolts and the pinch weld side (driver side)

  • Estimated installation time: ~1-2 hours

Tools & Materials

  • Socket set with an extension

  • Drill

  • Marker

  • Primer for exposed metal

  • Rivnut installation tool

  • Brackets, Loctite, and 3/8" rivnuts and bolts (included with the tank)

Installation Instructions

  1. Identify the bracket placemen
    Get under the van and figure out where each bracket goes. The grey tank has two identical brackets and one taller bracket. The taller one goes all the way toward the rear, where the tank is taller and lets water run down to the drain.

  2. Align and mark the brackets
    Set the tall side of the bracket up over the fuel tank mounting bolt. Keep it fairly perpendicular to the van. It doesn’t have to be perfect, just close. Mark the pinch weld side, then repeat for the rear strap.

  3. Drill, prime, and install the rivnuts
    After marking, drill out each spot, prime the metal, and install your rivnuts. Luke’s and Jake’s other tank videos cover this step.

  4. Start the front bracket
    Remove the first fuel tank bracket bolt. Slide the bracket under the tank mount strap, using an extension on your socket. Start the bolt back into place without fully tightening. Then start one of the provided bolts on the other side.

  5. Feed in the tank
    With the first bracket hanging, lift the tank and feed it into place. Slide it all the way forward.

  6. Install the rear bracket
    Remove the fuel tank bolt at the rear. Position the tallest bracket, then reinstall the fuel tank mounting bolt and add the provided 3/8" bolt.

  7. Tighten the front
    Go back to the front bracket and tighten everything down.

  8. Install the center bracket
    Completely remove the center strap on the fuel tank. Place the bracket and reinstall the strap. Then add the provided bolt.

  9. Final check
    Go around the whole tank and make sure every fastener is fully tightened. You’re done.
