Why Folding Showers Work for Van Conversions
Folding showers give you enclosed, private bathing without permanently consuming floor space. After use, they collapse flat against the wall, returning the bathroom area to other purposes—kitchen prep, work desk, gear storage. This adaptability is why many full-time van travelers choose folding systems over fixed stalls: you get the shower when you need it, open space when you don't.
The FOLD Shower brings this concept to van conversions with a wall-mounted design that folds completely flat when stowed, deploys in under a minute, and provides a stable, leak-resistant bathing enclosure that feels close to home bathing.
How the FOLD Shower Works
The FOLD Shower is a wall-mounted panel system that folds flat against the interior wall. Every unit includes a pre-installed Shower Port System with quick-connect hose, mixer valve, and stainless steel shower head with adjustable flow control. The magnetic zipped shower curtain positions for front, left, or right entry depending on your bathroom layout.
Dimensions work across van platforms: 23 3/8" overall width, 32 1/2" overall height, 25" pan depth when deployed. Installation requires roughly 3.5" clearance behind the unit for plumbing connections. A Scandvik 1.5" straight drain fitting connects to your gray water system.
Deployment and stowage take under a minute. The rigid enclosure doesn't sway or cling the way curtain-style setups do, containing water better during vehicle movement and creating a shower experience closer to stationary home bathrooms.
Space and Layout Flexibility
Unlike standing shower stalls that dominate floor plans from day one, the FOLD Shower occupies very little functional space when folded. After your shower, the enclosure collapses completely flat, freeing the bathroom area for other activities—cooking, working at a fold-down desk, storing gear. This keeps your van open, breathable, and genuinely multipurpose instead of being defined by a single fixture.
In short-wheelbase layouts especially, every inch matters. Builders working with tight spaces gravitate toward folding designs because they support the vanlife principle: one zone handling several jobs instead of being dominated by a large fixture.
Installation and Build Time
FOLD Shower installation is much lighter and simpler than standing shower stalls. You need solid wall backing, accurate drain alignment, and cabinet space, but the overall process is straightforward—typically 3-4 hours depending on plumbing routing.
Standing stalls, by contrast, demand heavy waterproofing, precise framing, permanent ventilation, and careful drain hole drilling. A complete standing shower build can consume several days.
Winterization and Maintenance
The FOLD Shower enclosure remains accessible for periodic cleaning and rinsing. Stainless hardware resists rust better than painted or chrome finishes in damp van environments. Because the system collapses completely, air circulates around all surfaces during storage, reducing mildew risk compared to permanently sealed stalls.
Drain lines route to your gray water tank with proper slope to prevent standing water and odor. Keep the system well-ventilated after use—run a roof fan or crack a window for 15 minutes to remove moisture.
